DOG GROOMING
With the rise in the need for pet companionship in recent years has come a need to keep these pets clean and groomed. This may include bathing, a haircut or clip, nails, anal gland expression, and/or general neatening and brush-outs between appointments. Grooming is rather breed specific, however, Animal House takes into consideration the needs, lifestyle, health, and basic shape of the pet as a means to determine the best grooming schedule and hair cut (if necessary).
At Animal House, our grooming speciality is 'difficult' dogs ... aged, ill, or behavioral issues. Besides the obvious need for this service in our area, in most cases, the only option available to 'special needs' animals was to be anesthetized at their veterinarian and to be groomed while under anesthesia (if your vet even performs this service) ... and at great expense to the owner. We feel the pain these animals experience whether from fear, lack of socialization, or psychological issues.
Upon first coming to Animal House, a new customer is asked a series of questions that is to help the groomer determine the best course of action. The questionaire covers topics such as:
- Owner's general information.
- Pet's general information.
- Pet's specific medical problems.
- Pet's personality traits (phobias?).
- Clip or Brush & Bath?
- Pick-up time or a call when finished.
- Notes by the bather and/or groomer.
We have a unique environment at Animal House - an environment that is not found elsewhere. Pets do not have to be caged or crated as is the norm in a grooming shop. We allow pets to play with each other, romp outside, or lounge on a bed as in a 'doggie daycare' environment. Most owners love this benefit, however, there are some pets, who for various reasons, cannot or do not want to socialize. For these pets, we try to make their stay as comfortable as possible by providing individualized methods such as giving them their private play area or yard, keeping portable kennels in areas where the pet can observe the others and not become bored ... or conversely, giving them a comfortable, quiet area to take a nap if needed.
Grooming Requirements We have no specific requirements for allowing a pet to be groomed at Animal House & Company, Inc. (If the pet is to socialize with the others in a daycare environment, the requirements for doggie daycare will apply.) Basically ...
- The pet should have had its rabies shot, as required by PA law
- The request for services must be in the best interest of the pet.
