ABOUT US @ THE ANIMAL HOUSE

Animal House was formed in 1998 as a partnership and was originally known as Animal House Pet Grooming. The company was restructured as an 'S' Corporation in July of 2001 and renamed Animal House & Company, Inc. In 2007, Sharon A. Eckenrode Janes became the sole owner of the Animal House.

The Animal House is located at 114 South Sporting Hill Road between Mechanicsburg and Camp Hill, in Pennsylvania. It is strategically located on a busy street in Hampden Township, Cumberland County, connecting two major thoroughfares, the Carlisle Pike and Trindle Road. It is across the street from the Hampden Centre ... which is home to Karns, and the Hampden 8 Theaters. (For more detailed directions, see our Location page.)

The business has expanded over the years and now includes, in addition to Dog Grooming services ... Doggie Daycare, Bed & Breakfast, Boarding, Rescue, Pet Education, and Retail. (... And we don't plan on stopping there. Eventually, we would like to see our business handle every aspect of a dog's existence.)

Animal House & Company takes great pride in its reputation and we challenge anyone (or anything) that may tarnish it. Taking our task very seriously, we do not allow others to influence our sincerity of purpose. We have built our reputation to the extent that most of our business is referral ... referrals from customers, referrals from area veterinarians, and referrals from others in the pet care industry.

When Animal House was conceived in 1998, we discussed what things needed changing in the pet care field. As a result, we decided to approach our services from the pet's perspective - not the human's. We tried to put ourselves into the 'paws' of the pet and asked ourselves questions about how we liked what our senses were telling us. We read books, talked to professionals, and volunteered with numerous pet shelters to learn as much as we could on how pets feel, communicate, and behave under certain circumstances. We then drew up policies, principles, and procedures around these observations.

At the time, we did not know how explosive this 'new' way of thinking would become to the future of Animal House. We just knew we could not work under antiquated methods without giving any thought as to how 'what we were doing' was affecting the pet. This 'new' way of doing business in the pet care arena has, in fact, been what pet owners had been looking for ... someone to treat their pet as they would!

The pet care industry has nowhere to go but up. Not only are more and more people getting pets, but also the way people think of their pets is changing. Pets are now referred to as 'kids' and we feel guilty if we treat them like 'animals'. Because of this 'new way of thinking', the pet care industry is in a state of transition. Animal House & Company is excited to be at the front of this transition. We will strive to make life more enjoyable for our dog friends and make the relationship between dog and guardian more rewarding.

Please feel free to peruse our pages ... to discover who we are and what we stand for ... to catch our excitement in working with dogs and to understand why we take this privilege so seriously.
