FLINT RIVER RANCH
Pet Foods & Treats

  • NO BY-PRODUCTS: Flint River Ranch (FRR) chicken meal and other meat sources do not contain poultry by-products or other by-products like chicken feet, chicken heads, duck heads, beaks, feathers, fish heads, hides, hoofs and intestines. Chicken meal and other meat sources contain meat and edible skin - the same as you would feed your family. There are no breakfast food by-products, corn, cottonseed, corn cobs, citrus pulp, soy beans, fillers, and no screenings or other foreign materials such as noxious weeds, straw, hulls, or chaff in our product. Grains are the same high quality as you would find in your own cereals and bread.

  • NO CHEMICAL PRESERVATIVES: Most brands of dog food use chemical preservatives to prolong the shelf-life of their products. Flint River Ranch foods are naturally preserved with mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin E and C).

  • NO SPRAYED ON ADDITIVES: There is no sprayed-on additive or greasy coating to make the taste acceptable. Ordinary dog foods are extruded under high pressure and extreme temperatures and then sprayed with fat and other products in order to encourage dogs to eat. FRR's natural dog food's great taste and superior nutrition is baked in - never sprayed on.

  • OVEN-BAKED: Oven baking changes hard to digest starches into digestible dextrins, which are readily absorbed into your dog's system. The secret to Flint River Ranch natural dog food's great nutrition is the number of nutrients present in the dog's food and how efficiently they are utilized when digested.

  • CONCENTRATED TO FEED LESS Since the food is concentrated, there is more value with less food consumed. Feeding oven-baked foods require 20-25% less food than steam-extruded foods. Pet owners will find fewer odors and stool clean up. When you buy dog food, you're looking for nutrition. Studies have shown that dogs were required to eat 2 to 4 times as much of an economy brand than a premium food to provide proper nutrition. Because you feed less, Flint River Ranch high density, natural dog food will be less expensive to feed than other foods costing less. Healthy nutrition can also mean less medical bills.

  • DIGESTIBILITY & PALATABILITY: Flint River Ranch dog food scores in the high 90's for digestibility and palatability - while most extruded food is in the low to mid 80's on a scale of 100.

  • QUALITY INGREDIENTS: With Flint River Ranch natural dog food, the investment is in quality, not packaging or national advertising. The foods are all made with Human-Grade ingredients, which simply put, are foods that you or your family could and would eat. There are no rendered products such as the '4-D' animals (dead, diseased, dying, disabled), animal waste, road kill, or euthanized animals.

  • NO ARTIFICIAL COLORS or FLAVORS: Flint River Ranch does not feel the need to coax your pet to eat it's food. Nor do they have to coax you, the consumer, to purchase their food because it's a pleasing color. The taste and ingredients speak for themselves.

  • DIRECT FROM THE OVEN TO YOUR DOOR: One of the most important aspects of Flint River Ranch quality is their distribution system of moving the product directly from manufacturing to the consumer. It is a necessary benefit in providing a "fresh" food product with premium nutrition. This is one reason Flint River Ranch products are not available in grocery and warehouse stores.

  • CATS & KITTENS

Cats are finicky eaters. Tests show that besides flavor and aroma, texture and shape are very important in determining cat food palatability. Cats first smell their food. If it passes this test, shape then becomes important because it determines the way it feels and breaks apart in the cat's mouth.

The price of the cat food, like other products, most often depend on the grade and quality. Flint River Ranch cat food will actually be cheaper to feed than other foods costing less. You will be able to see the difference in your cat's healthy skin, coat, and energy level. Healthy nutrition can also mean less medical bills. Flint River Ranch believes that your cat deserves the best possible food and health.
    • KITTENS: Young kittens may be started on Flint River Ranch by mixing the food with a little warm water. Feed food dry as soon as the kitten's teeth are strong enough to chew the hard food (8 - 10 weeks). Feed kittens about 3 times a day - after 6 months about twice a day.

    • ADULT CATS: Adult cats (1 year) can be fed once or twice a day. This depends upon what keeps your cat happy. Your cat should be looking for food when the next meal is due. Teach them to eat at meal times. The amount your cat eats in 15 - 20 minutes is about the amount they should be fed at that meal. Adjust the food as you notice increasin or decrease in the animal's weight.

Any new food is best introduced by mixing it with your current pet food for approximately one week and allowing for slow assimilation. When introducing a new diet, mix the new food with your cat's usual food and slowly increase the amount of the new food over several days. A sudden change in any food source may be a shock to your pet's digestive system. You may notice loose stool. If so, reduce the amount of new food being introduced until your pet adjusts.

The amount of food your pet requires daily may vary depending upon age, weight, lifestyle, and temperament.

Always have plenty of fresh water available for your cat.

    DOGS & PUPPIES

Because Flint River Ranch Oven-Baked Kibble is high density, you can feed at least 20% less than other dog foods. The food is very rich and highly digestible in the dog's system. Care must be taken not to over-feed. Because the food is concentrated, a standard 8 ounce cup holds 4.2 ounces of food. This compares to an average of 3.3 ounces in most extruded foods.

Flint River Ranch is a private company created and owned by Jim Flint. The total story spans the "reality test" of fifty years of personal business experience and includes the wisdom, advice, insights, inspirations, dedication and contributions of many people. The company is structured to continue on into the future with the support of family and a staff of dedicated people.

The business was first structured to provide the very finest feline and canine foods. The very best industry nutritionists, consultants, manufacturers, suppliers and veterinary talents and experiences were utilized in identifying the quality ingredients and manufacturing processes. This combination was used to carefully formulate the finest products available that would sincerely contribute to the health and quality lifestyle of our family companions. When this goal was realized, the product was manufactured and delivered to the Riverside warehouse on Columbus Day, October 12, 1993. A fitting date for the exciting business "voyage" into the future.

The second goal was to utilize the dynamic changes and tangible forces taking place in the market and the way people purchase products. The major shift evolved from people shopping at home to make things easier, to relieve time stress and unwanted elements in their lives. A program was structured to keep things simple and provide services and products that reduce the complexity for the consumer. This was supported by a desire to merit public acceptance with strict attention to service and for a continued dedication to the business for Flint River Ranch - providing the highest quality canine and feline foods.

Third, it was the goal to structure Flint River Ranch as a vehicle designed to kindle the spirit of entrepreneurship and individual opportunity with a distributor supported direct-marketing program. The business truly belongs deep in the hearts and minds of a growing team of Independent Flint River Ranch Distributors that share products and information with other pet owners - like the person who introduced you to Flint River Ranch. These dedicated individuals embrace the opportunity and accept the responsibilty to own and manage their own business - turning dreams into reality.

Thanks to the support and interest of our dedicated distributors - along with continued improvements and development of quality products - Flint River Ranch has grown from a single California warehouse to multiple distribution centers across the United States.

Flint River Ranch (FRR) dog food and cat food contains only human-grade, natural ingredients that are slowly oven-baked under carefully controlled conditions, resulting in a food that is easily digested, and has a high degree of assimilation of important vitamins and minerals.

Proper diet not only is important for humans, it is also the most basic aspect of your pet's "Quality of Life". The secret to FRR's great nutrition is how many nutrients are present in the pet food and how efficiently they are utilized when digested. Quality ingredients provide for a pet's healthy well-being by helping the pet's body holistically heal itself through healthy nutrition. Benefits are noticeable in your pet's shiny coat, healthy skin, and energy level.

All Flint River Foods are formulated to exceed AAFCO (Association American Feed Control Officials) nutrition requirements. Their profiles are protocol testing and are the recognized industry authority on dog and cat nutrition for the purpose of substantiation of nutritional adequacy in commercial pet foods.

    MEAT

Chicken meat is our base meat source, with the addition of lamb and a small amount of fish. There are no rendered by-products, intestines, heads, feet or feathers in our formulas. The amino acids provided by the meats are the basic building blocks of muscle, skin, coat, bone, blood and the immune system.

CHICKEN: Considerable amount of time was required to locate the chicken meat source, a specialty supplier that has the ability to process to Flint River's specific requirements. The chicken is not from rendering plants where by-products are rendered at high temperature. There are no bones, by-products, or indigestible parts in the Chicken Meal. It is strictly human quality chicken flesh with some edible skin. The same as you would cook for your family. The chicken is cooked at the supplier to maintain freshness and reduce the possibility of contamination in the handling and shipping uncooked product. It is processed into "Ground Meal" form with most of the water removed for ease of handling and reduced shipping costs.

    LAMB: Lamb is range fed.

FISH: Menhaden Fish is a herring like fish found along the North Atlantic coast of the United States. The flesh is an excellent source of menhaden oil for coat and skin. Fish is a prime source of a complete protein. Rich in unsaturated fats (Omega 3 fatty acids), Vitamins A, K and K, and also contains iodine, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium copper and fluoride.

    GRAIN

Whole wheat and selected parts of the wheat berry are used as our base grain. Some humans, as well as pets, are allergic to wheat, however, wheat grains are not only more digestible than corn or soybean, it is one of the most nutritionally balanced cereal grains. It is an easy-to-digest source of carbohydrates, fiber and energy. A combination of grains (ground wheat, wheat flour, wheat germ meal, ground rice), like a combination of meats, is better than just one source. Low quality fillers like wood fiber, corn cobs, peanut hulls, cottonseed, straw, soy beans or citrus pulp are never found in Flint River Ranch products.

Grains are purchased from major commercial suppliers like General Mills & Pillsbury - fully tested and retested when received. This testing ensures the very best quality and reduces the possibility of toxic molds. Grain is cheaper when purchased direct from the farm, however, the risk of mold or other harmful toxins is greater.

WHEAT: Wheat flour is a fine-ground whole wheat grain. A course-ground whole wheat is also added for texture, along with a quality wheat berry.

RICE: A combination of brown and white rice. The white rice for digestibility and the brown for its added nutritional value. A diet product that is 100% brown rice can be somewhat hard for some animals to digest.

CORN: Corn is an excellent grain; however, it is more difficult to digest - either by humans or dogs. Therefore, corn is not used as an ingredient in our dog food. The feline digestive systems better utilize corn and supplies important diet benefits to cats and kittens. Corn is included in the feline formulas.

    THE OTHER STUFF

VITAMINS & MINERALS: are chelated (bonded with amino acids, i.e. protein) and highly effective in providing metabolic absorption. FRR products are preserved with a combination of mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E) and Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C). No harmful chemicals are used.

FLAX: The different proteins in flax provide a high proportion base of unsaturated, essential fatty acids and dietary fiber. Flax is recognized for its potential in reducing the risk of some chronic diseases as well as improving the thickness and sheen of the coat. It provides a great benefit to oven-baked food by resisting oxidation from the baking process and improving product shelf life.

LECITHIN: Lecithin protects cells from damage caused by oxidation. Lecithin is largely composed of the B vitamin choline - with linoleic acid and inositol.

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS: Linolenic Acid (Omega 3). Linoleic Acid (Omega 6)

BEET PULP: FRR's beet pulp has no sugar. Only the fiber left after all the sugar has been extracted is used. Beet Pulp is by far the best source of fiber to gently massage intestinal walls, removing the mucus and slime and aid in the animal's bowl movement. Nutrients are first digested in the stomach, then absorbed into the blood through the intestinal walls. Proper fiber acts as a calming base for forming the stool in the colon and it develops good fecal consistency. FRR feels that the beet pulp is better than peanut hulls, corncobs, citrus and other fillers most often used in pet foods.

PRESERVATIVES: Foods will spoil without some form of temperature control or preservatives. Some feel that chemical preservatives are more important to use than allowing the possibility of a food turning rancid. FRR disagrees. As a preservative, FRR uses Vitamin E, a closely related fat-soluble compound known as tocopherols. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that retards the oxidation of other vitamins. Vitamin E works as a preservative up to a period of twelve months and as a peak preservative, up to six months.

Flint River Ranch, Super Premium All-Natural Formula, is slowly TWICE OVEN-BAKED under carefully controlled conditions and proper temperatures. This unique baking process changes the hard to digest molecules of "raw" starches into easy to digest dextrines. This process acts as a "pre-digest" of the kibble food, resulting in less strain on the dog's digestive system and produces a greater degree of food absorption. A dog's intestinal tract is short; it functions in the most efficient manner when the food is concentrated and can be quickly digested. The important vitamins, minerals and food ingredients are then easily assimilated into the dog's digestive system.

Most pet food companies prepare their food by steaming it as quickly as possible, usually less than 3 minutes, then extruding it under extreme pressure through a metal die (a steam extrusion process). This process expands the food with air creating a uniform shape. This method does not produce the highly digestible food that your dog's system requires. This extruded food (cooked in a very short time) usually requires the addition of what many nutritionists feel are harmful chemical preservatives (Ethoxyquin, BHA, and BHT) to maintain a reasonable product shelf-life. These chemical products may be associated with dry skin, allergic reactions, dental disease, poor health and degenerative organ dysfunction.

In the oven-baking process, a small 2 inch size biscuit is baked while it moves slowly through the oven. Then it's broken into smaller, irregular kibble ranging in size from tiny morsels to about 1/2 inch, and sent through the oven again for a second baking, producing a highly digestible and vitamin-rich food for your dog.

The smaller morsels are very important as they digest very quickly in the dog's system helping create immediate nutritional value for your pet. Dogs don't eat food - they "wolf' it down - small pieces digest easier in the dog's system. This is what makes the food so great! The larger, crunchy kibble naturally cleans teeth, exercises the gums and freshens breath.

An oven-baked food will have various shades of colors - from the soft light inside to the heavy brown crunchy outside crust. Oven-baked food is food in its natural state. No oils or liver digest is sprayed on the food to encourage a dog to eat. Like all natural things in our environment, as well as the baking process, color of the food will vary from time to time.

Since the food is concentrated, there is more value with less food consumed. Feeding oven-baked foods require 20-25% less food than steam-extruded foods. Pet owners will find fewer odors and stool clean up. Feeding Flint River Ranch quality products, you will be able to see the difference in your pet's health, skin, coat, energy level and quality life-style.

SHELF LIFE: Flint River Ranch products, including manufacturing and shipping time, are in the hands of the pet owner within 1 month. When stored out of direct sunlight and in a cool, dry place, the pet owner has a fresh product for a period of up to 11 months. Each bag has an expiration date on it, and if stored properly, the food can be used until that date.

STORAGE: The food must be stored in a cool, dry environment. After the bag is opened, the open end should be rolled up or held closed to help keep insects and other pests out. We recommend keeping the food in the original bag so that no contamination will occur from another container. The food will spoil more quickly if it is kept in a damp, humid place. Those customers who live in humid areas may want to consider refrigerating or freezing portions that will not be used in a reasonable period of time.
